I havent really played the latest games of the series, but when it was really popular id play it all the time (the red and blue versions). I would always choose out with Squirtle though, I always thought he was the best, since he could take on charmander and bulbasaur pretty good even though plants were a weakness.

But wait a minute though didnt the rival pick to play with charmander even after you picked squirtle, a [wiki]pokemon[/wiki] of his weakness? i think so, i dont remember. 8)

When you started out with a pokemon, usually your rival chose YOUR pokemon's type weakness. Say, you started out with Squirtle (I chose squirtle at first at the time because Wartortle is still one of my favorite pokemon T__T), your rival would choose Bulbasaur, and water is sometimes weak against grass and obviously lightning... or if you chose bulbasaur your rival would choose charmander, etc.

Now. My favorite pokemon would have to be: Raichu, Mew, Wartortle, Articuno, Eevee, Umbreon, Ninetails, Vulpix.... I have a lot... !

yeah but i could a sworn though that the rival picked charmander when you picked squirtle too
